Is Your Thyroid Making You Tired?
Hypothyroidism, or low thyroid function, is something we see frequently in our practice. The thyroid gland secretes thyroid hormones that have an effect on cellular energy, metabolism, and how the body responds to other hormones.
Symptoms such as fatigue, depression, dry skin, hair loss, cold intolerance, weight gain, and constipation may be a sign that your thyroid is working sluggishly. Low thyroid is particularly common in women and may be associated with irregular periods and infertility.
As both women and men age, they experience a decreased production of hormones. Hypothyroidism may be linked to the symptoms experienced in menopause and andropause (low male hormones).
The standard measure of thyroid function is a blood test for TSH levels. TSH is only one of the many ways that thyroid function can be evaluated. At our clinic we offer a Complete Thyroid Panel (blood test) which looks at TSH, both thyroid hormones (T4 and T3), and anti-thyroid antibodies.
Correctly treating low thyroid can make a world of difference to someone who has hypothyroidism. If you think it’s time to evaluate your thyroid function contact Penticton Naturopathic Clinic today.
